The Spectacular Aurora Display of November 11th, 2025

On the evening of Tuesday, November 11, 2025, sky-gazers across North America and beyond were treated to one of the most remarkable celestial light shows in recent memory. The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, put on a stunning display with sightings reported across a wide area, reaching latitudes far south of their typical range.

The Science Behind the Storm

This extraordinary display was the result of intense solar activity. Over the previous few days, the Sun had launched multiple Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), massive bursts of solar wind and magnetic fields, directly toward Earth.

The Amazing Experience of the 2024 Solar Eclipse

Another total solar eclipse is over and what an experience.

It’s been 7 years since my first encounter with totality during the solar eclipse of August 21, 2017. After that event, I was going to try and get into the path again. And luckily, the skies were clear for another amazing experience.

This time, I was better prepared to try and capture the beauty of this spectacle.

Total Solar Eclipse - Corona - April 8, 2024

My First Image of the Sun

With just over one month before the big solar eclipse crossing the United States on April 8, 2024, I decided to get a solar filter to try and capture the show. But first, I need to practice solar photography skills. This is quite a bit different in that I’m not using a telescope. Instead, I’m using a Canon T7i DSLR with a Sigma 150-600mm lens.

I get lucky in that on February 24, 2024, there was a big sunspot on the face and that the skies were clear. The image did take some time to process because I’ve never imaged the sun before. Based on my experience with lunar photography and PixInsight, I went ahead and developed a Solar Workflow
